Old School vs. New School vs. The Newer School (The Generation Gap)

(Written a few months ago)

So it's been a while huh, I'm sorry I been on a hiatus. I've been walking around observing things and people around me and enjoying life (by my standards). Not everything is "good in the hood" though. People are dying rapidly over the most ignorant of instances (this has always been like that, but still), our youth and our seniors are fighting with each other to see who cannot act their age the best. Now where does that leave us? The 20s and early-mid 30s of society. We just watch it unfold and see where we fall. That's what brought me to the basis of the topic I bring to you today: "The Old School vs. The New School vs. The Newer School".
Society, including me, seems to look at public figures and make most decisions based on what that figure says or does (or has)-this does not change no matter how old or young you are. Peep, I ask for someone to run this test, super quick, if your mom and/or dad is 30 and over and watches or used to watch Oprah, Dr. Oz, or any generic form of them and then all of a sudden had a change of views on something they did on the regular, that is what I mean. Look at your past if you ever watched a show and said 'I want whatever comes out for that show' you are a victim too.
You're probably wondering whats the classification process between the New and Old School. Well New School (not newer school we'll see them later) is typically 20 maybe 19( a stretch for some 18) to about the age of probably 30 maybe even 35 (if that), Meanwhile, Old School is anyone older than 35. NOW our 'future' the newer school, everybody younger than 18-19 at most is who I seem more concerned with what they're doing at times. Why? you may ask, simple, because they seem to just be more reckless nowadays (at least where I'm from) to the point of uncontrollable.
I'm not saying one is better than the other but we see and handle things differently because of the times. My generation seems to be leading the charge of indecisiveness, half know where or what they want to do the other half just seems to ride the wave of 'whatever happens, happens' the young that we are apparently leading seems to make more extreme advances in what we lead them into, whether it be good or bad and that in itself is a two headed dragon, we either get saved or burned. The Old School seems to be either the supervisor or the bad hand in the pot, they either make sure the right thing is done for your best intentions or some may steer you into the wrong direction and influence you to do what is considerably immoral in the eyes of many, it usually is making sure you do the right thing but you guys understand what I mean when I say "some". The crazy part of it all is we have all been through this ordeal, we are all the products of this generational teaching, and we definitely are going to be the ones to carry on the tradition of passing along generation traditions as we are learning them now. My question to you is what role do you play in all of this and what might be you're teaching to the newer that comes along? THE GENERATION GAP.
-Thank you.

**I hope that everyone understands that when I use the term "we" I mean the 20s through 30s group of society.

Music Through My eyes

World ! Wassup! 2:01 a.m second blog and whatever whatever [late blogging nigga type sh*t] but, you see, what I'm tryna hit ya with is what I've been seeing about the likes in music within the last decade or so how its changed us, well some of us. So Welcome to Music through Myeyes (spelled like that on purpose). First order of business, seeing as we talking about music let me give you an opinion from a artist/writer point of view: The music changes everyday, one day you listening to drake talking about who is Marvin, next day you listening to Marvin & Chardonnay, point being music is changing, topics are changing and interests in the topics are growing, sign of the times. I'm a 90's baby (woop woop and all lat) so I was accustomed to hearing the struggle and dreams and good vivid lyrics, i.e:
"One for the money
Two for pussy and foreign cars Three for Alize niggaz deceased or behind bars I rap divine Gods check the prognosis, is it real or showbiz? My window faces shootouts, drug overdoses" -memory lane. Nas
"chrome socks beamin, through my periphial i see ya schemin
stop dreamin',i leave ya body steamin
niggas is feenin, whats the meanin
i'm leanin on any nigga intervenin with the sound of my money machine-in" -Cant knock the hustle. Jay-Z
Classics right !? there's way more songs that are like this.

So as we do our little time travel we move into our talented rappers who followed footsteps throughout the years: We have our Kanye's of the world, The Wayne's of the world, The Games, The Big Sean's, etcetera etcetera the list goes on of rappers who are lyrical & talk about what they seen and/or been through and put their lyrics together cleverly, tell stories, all-around good.

And then we move away from the top of the list to the bottom to the ones who just got good beats and lines: The Soulja Boys, The Gucci Manes, Birdman [he was iight, probably, maybe], etcetera etcetera of just rappers who talk about their money, parties, F*cking, smoking, drinking, without giving you background. Look back at these artist and I guarantee that their singles (majority) had to do with exactly those things, no hesitation.

You're probably sitting thinking "but all rappers do that jay", [down-syndrome voice], this is correct, but look at big sean then look at soulja boy. When Big Sean came out we knew he was a Detroit boy who finally mad it, hence Finally Famous; now when soulja boy came out what did we know ? SHIT ! crank dat....excuse me sir, NO. So ask that question before you try to say who's better or who's worse, or try and chew my head off.

EVERYBODY IS TALENTED BUT NOT EVERYBODY IS RELEVANT.

Don't Forget Your Roots.

So it's 12:40 and I'm just now writing my first post for this blog. Hello world, allow me to introduce myself to the masses...my names Jeremy but friends call me Jay (and if you reading this I'm possibly considering you as a friend). I'm 20 years old from the Bronx, Lincoln Hospital alum, I rap with my Smoove Boy Brothas, (but that's for another conversation). I'm American but my parents are from Honduras ( could've fooled anybody) they raised a man & I'm glad that they didn't give up on me and raised me how they did. Let's take this moment to salute my parents......
Okay So now that you know a little about me let's talk about what this is, shall we? So..this..right..here..is..my..blog [corn right? I does that. haha]. I call it "Child's Play". Why the name because I'm a young man getting older and wiser but I definitely still got the complex of a kid, & so this here blog is meant to entertain you, the audience, about things the you and I alike think should be discussed.....Today's subject:

REMEMBER WHERE YOU CAME FROM...
I  think people are getting carried  away with what they find as tasteful and what just isn't, example?
  • not everyone is a Wiz Khalifa, Amber Rose, Chris Brown, Rihanna, or a Kanye West. You dont have to get a blonde streak, dye your hair blonde, shave ya head to wear heels or wear clothes that won't fit you tomorrow, be yourself nobody changing you & nobody expecting you to be a certain way.
  • Never forget your support system your parents, friends, mentor, etc. they're going to be by your side no matter how bad you mess, not everybody has a fairy tale life where everything is guaranteed. YOUR NOT GUARANTEED TOMORROW.
Lastly, if you are to be a successful person, don't ever, I repeat EVER  forget your roots. Thats where you came from and thats where you'll end up when it's all said and done. Don't believe the hype its not worth your pride and dignity.

Everybody wants to be famous but when they get there they don't know how to or just cant handle the feeling of everyone being on their side for the wrong reasons. Remember who you are.

"And could I be a star, does fame in this game have to change who you areor could I be the same one who came from a far away life just to make in these Broadway lights, now I'm shining in the broad day lights...go figure a slow transition from a little broke nigga" - J.Cole
I'll try my best to keep ya updated as often as possible on things you guys wanna hear and everything (which I know there's a lot) but seeing as how this is the first post, We'll stop here for now. More to come,
